UK Regulations
The Packaging Waste regulations, also known as The Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) Regulations 2007 work on the principle of common responsibility. So all businesses producing or using packaging should contribute to the cost of recycling and recovery.
The regulations place binding obligations on Packaging producers in the UK with the primary aims of
- Reducing the amount of packaging produced in the first place
- Reducing the amount of packaging waste going to landfill
- Increasing the rate of recycling and recovery of packaging waste
