If you want to cut down car lmiles and CO2 emissions and you were thinking of getting a bicycle (and let's face it, it's pretty flat round Ham), a place you may be able to get a suitable bike for not much money is the Kingston Eco-op. The Eco-op recycles and refurbsihes donated bicycles for re-sale. It is a social enterprise scheme to help people develop skills, confidence and self esteem etc

And of course if you have an old bike that they can repairand re-sell they'd like to hear from you.

The project is based in the industrial units near to HomeBase on the Kingston Road (going towards New Malden). Telephone for opening hours: 020 8942 5503/ 5500

Jon

Jon,

What a great idea!

By refurbishing old bikes it gives everyone the opportunity to purchase a bike no matter what their budget, if only there were more schemes like this.

I'm a keen cyclist and cycle to work 2-3 times a week in the summer and when ever I can outside of work.

British Gas really promotes cycling to work and the bike racks are stacked in the summer!

It's certainly a good way to keep fit and helps the environment at the same time!

Thanks Helen
