To top up or not to top up? Created
Most of us have some loft insulation, but a lot of us don't have the recommended amount of 270-300mm (nearly a foot). But how much do you need to have before it is no longer worth topping up any more?

Hello
I used to work on the Insulation Team for BG and as a general rule of thumb we would say the first 4-6 inches is the bit that keeps most of the heat in, anything on top of that is just extra. However due to the fact that loft insulation does compress over time, we top up to beyond what is strictly needed. I know I would rather have too much insulation than not quite enough! And dont forget, if anyone in your household is over 70 or on qualifying disability or income related benefits, you might be able to have your insulation done for free. You can call 0800 068 0032 for more information or to book in for an insulation survey. I hope this helps but if you would like any more info please get in contact!
