I am really interested in finding out how efficient your measures have been for your flood lights. We have many sports facilities in london which are not always used to the max and it would be great to think, if they were flood lit, they could be carbon neutral. Cheers for any feedback.xxx

Hi Emmaw,<BR><BR>The project in Braford was to find a solution to enable the bmx course to be used during the winter months without passing any increase in costs on to the end users of the club, in simple terms, make the club an all year round facility at no additional financial burden to the club or riders.<BR><BR>The secret to making this a reality is to utilise the Feed in Tarrifs that are available for generating electricity from a renewable source, in the case of the Bradford Bandits BMX club, this is made possible through a Solar Photo Voltaic system (PV). <BR><BR>Now as you are most probably aware, in order to generate electricity from the sun, means the electricity is generated in the daytime (think of a solar calculator and how covering the cell makes the screen go blank), and of course, the floodlights are used at nighttime ,and so the pattern of electrical generation and electrical use at the club do not match, so we sought to find a solution, to offset the electricty used by the club floodlights with another building that could absorb the electricty the panels created during the day, this way, the building the panels are on reduce their energydemand from the grid, this offsets the energy the floodlights use at nightime, the energy bill for the building the panels are on is reduced, and the Feed in Tariff that is generated from the panles is paid to the club to cover the cost of using the floodlights.<BR><BR>The panels where commisioned at the end of Aug last year, and the club are shortly going to receive their first payment from the Feed in Tarrif of over £750. Over the course of the year, the panels are expected to create approx £2800 for the club, create approx 7800 KwH's of electricity and reduce CO2 emmissions by over 4000kg's. <BR><BR>Correct placement of solar panels is absolutley essential in order to maximise the PV systems capability and so a full site survey will be required. <BR><BR>British Gas do offer this service if this is a technology you wish to explore, please feel free to get back in touch if we can help you moving forwards.<BR><BR>
