Lighting display

Lighting display Created

I would like to buy a lighting display. Ideally it would be a long box that has five or 6 fittings on the top and small digital power meters below each fitting, each with its own switch. The idea being that we can take it to schools, meeting and events and let people try different light bulbs to see how much power they use, what the light quality is like and how much each bulb costs. Like an interactive try-before-you-buy display.

Has anybody seen one before, got any ideas where I could find one (or commission somebody to make one?) and do you think people would find it useful?

Many thanks

Ah...we've thought of that too.

We've ordered 5 lightweight rigid industrial suitcases with solid interior foam (although these aren't going to arrive until november). The idea is to buy energy efficient bulbs from local retailers and cut the foam so that each bulb will sit in snuggly. Each case will come with a range of bulbs, a description of the bulbs, where they can be bought and information on financial and CO2 savings. Each case will be identical and space for feedback ("good for reading lamps", "Doesn't dim as weel as I thought" etc) may also be included.

The cases will then be lent (for free) out to other local community groups, residents, schools and the library so people can test these bulbs in their own fittings before buying some themselves.

This is a way off but hopefully people will find it useful.

What was the feedback form your Dad? Did he think it was the type of thing an electrician could knock up?
