Hi, Lee
Planning Permission is something that people seem to have many problems with. Firstly, because we are usually keen to get something built on our own home and don't like the process which seems long and drawn out. Secondly, it is quite bureaucratic and long winded. However, when you think it through we all want to see good development around us and someone has to take control of that to ensure the best possible outcomes for everyone. You are the custodian of your property or the custodian of a property, if a public building, and you want the best. Hopefully, planning departments assist you in achieving this.
The planners are paid by the public to help the public and should do this. If they don't then there should be a complaints process for you to follow.
In Llangattock we have been going through the planning process. It has been hard and expensive for our small community group and we have met with many barriers. But the building is listed, it serves an important purpose in the village demonstrating our industrial heritage and informs visitors. We are having to think laterally to achieve our goals and hopefully we are getting there. In the long term this is right. In the short term it is frustrating, hard work and may actually be too much of a barrier for us to overcome.
