Hi Jon
I'm with the Llangattock group in Wales. We had our Solar PV system installed by Solar Technologies (part of British Gas) on 28 October and it all went pretty smoothly. There was a small hiccup at the start where it looked like the panels might not fit our roof – but this was quickly resolved simply by altering the orientation. The electricians were great too – we live in an old house with fairly mysterious wiring, and before they started work they made sure our oil pipes and water pipes were correctly earthed – so we're now much safer too.
Can't say we've been blessed with sunshine since the install - in fact it's been particularly cloudy - but we have generated 4.5kW so far.
One thing I have discovered is that you can register for FITs with any of the power companies - ie it doesn't have to be the company that currently provides your power. Apparently the Big Six (British Gas, Eon, Npower etc) all offer the same in terms of generating and export tariffs, but some of the smaller companies may offer higher export tariffs (this is the smaller rate anyway: 3p is the going rate from the Big Six, so 1p here and there isn't going to make a huge difference anyway). I've gone with British Gas - simply because they did a great job and Green Streets has been great for our community.
