About Green Streets

1What is Green Streets? back to top

Green Streets is a British Gas programme that invested £2m to help UK communities be greener by investing in innovative energy projects. Fourteen communities were selected from almost 100 applications to be part of Green Streets and get a share of £2m work of microgeneration and energy efficiency equipment to help them to deliver their idea. The winning community was announced as Llangattock Green Valleys at the final event on 1 July.

Because we’re committed to helping people in the UK reduce their energy consumption and impact on the environment. If we can show people how to do it, and encourage and fund innovation in saving and generating energy, we will be able to shape the way we all use energy in the future.

Register on the site and share your experiences with the other communities, follow their progress and ask questions from experts and other people involved in community groups.

To start with, you may find our How To guides helpful. Then join in the chat with our communities and experts – they’ll be living some of the advice we’re giving, so will have plenty of first-hand experience to share.

5How long will Green Streets run for? back to top

The Green Streets programme has now ended. Llangattock Green Valleys was announced the winning community in the final event on 1 July.

6How was the winner of the Green Streets 2010 decided? back to top

The winner was selected based on how they went about saving energy, generating energy locally and engaging their wider community to support them in doing this.

7What is the Green Streets prize? back to top

As well as a share of £2m work of microgeneration and energy efficiency technology, the 14 communities competed to win up to £100,000 for the community to invest in an environmental project of their choice.

8How can I change my email address? back to top

First log in to the Green Streets website. Now go to My Home and click on My profile settings. You can now change your username, email and password using the form on that page.

9How can I become a member of a Green Streets Project? back to top

You can request to be a member of a particular project at registration.  If you didn't do this at registration stage and you want to become a member of a Green Streets project then please contact info@greenstreets.co.uk

British Gas may use files that you upload, but you own it so you can still use it as you like. If we do want to use anything that you’ve uploaded, we’ll always try to contact you beforehand. Please make sure you read our Terms of Use.

4What materials am I allowed to share? back to top

You can upload anything that doesn’t break our community rules, as long as you own the material or have permission from the owner to share it. You will also need permission from anyone that appears in photos, videos or any other content that you upload.

5What do the Terms of Use cover? back to top

The Terms of Use cover all interaction with the www.greenstreets.co.uk website. Some specific areas may have additional terms, but you’ll see them on the relevant pages.

6What do I do if I see content that I think is offensive of inappropriate? back to top

We do want to encourage a safe environment for people to share their ideas and opinions. If you do come across anything that you find offensive or inappropriate, click the ‘report abuse’ button and it will be reported to the site moderator who will take appropriate action. If you post offensive or inappropriate material to the site, the moderator will remove the post and persistent offenders may have their access to the site removed. Please ensure you read our community rules.

Your username and the image that you supply when you set up your profile will be displayed on the site to identify you every time you make a post. We may also use the information you provide to contact you about the site and any products and services you’ve shown an interest in. Please see our privacy policy for more information. Technical and log in questions

1What happens when I log on using Facebook Connect? back to top

When you connect from the Green Streets website, it can access information you’ve added through Facebook to allow you to interact with your friends in new and interesting ways. For more information about how Facebook Connect works, go to http://www.facebook.com/help/?page=730

2I registered for the Green Streets website but I did not receive a verification email. back to top

In some instances the email might get blocked by your Internet Service Provider or get put in a spam or junk folder in your mail box. If you have not received a verification email in the next 15 minutes, check whether you have anything in your spam or junk mail folder. If you do not receive the activation email at all, please contact us stating the email address you have used to register - we can then activate your account for you.

4 I want to change my username or password. How do I do it? back to top

First log in to the Green Streets website. Now go to My Home and click on My profile settings. You can now change your username, email and password using the form on that page.

5I can’t log in. What can I do? back to top

Have you signed up for Green Streets? You need to register your details before you can log into the site. Have you verified your registration through an email you received in your external mail? Make sure you have verified your account. If you have not received an email in the email address that you inputted on registration asking you to do this, you might find it in your junk mail folder. If you still can't find a verification email or you have verified your account and are still having problems logging in, then email info@greenstreets.co.uk
