Our Story
Eilean Eisdeal (a community development company on Easdale) was founded in 1997 to secure funding to renovate the drill hall into a community hall. It later secured funding to purchase the harbour and museum.
This latest project undertaken by Eilean Eisdeal is intended to promote education of saving and generating energy by providing renewable energy solutions and technology for homes and community buildings. Easdale would then become a model for other communities to follow by example.
At a community education meeting guest speakers informed the community on practical issues such as efficient energy use in the home, microgeneration technology, measures that could be taken to increase a home’s energy efficiency and ways to decrease its carbon footprint.
The project plan is to install a 15kw wind turbine, and a ground source heat pump using sea water in a flooded quarry to heat community buildings. Energy audits of participating households will guide any measures that may be appropriate and that can be applied within the...
